DESCRIPTION
Mandarin or Spessartite garnet is a stone from the garnets family. Its hardness is 6.5 and 7.5 / 10 on the Mohs scale and its density varies depending on this variety between 3.65 and 4.20.
Mandarin garnet is said to be manganese because it is very rich in manganese, this chemical element being the cause of its bright orange color. The best deposits of Mandarin Garnets in this frank and intense color are Namibia, Nigeria and Tanzania. There are other deposits in the world but you will rarely find the bright and intense orange of the mandarin.
Mandarin Garnet is highly sought after in jewelry and collectors because this orange color is rare among all other existing colored gems.
Garnet is a stone that comes in various colors, from burgundy red for pyrope garnet, through a golden orange for Spessartite garnet or even green for Demantoid garnet … or Tsavorite!
